Whether for books, storage space, to display and / or display decorative pieces and other purposes, shelves have become an essential piece of furniture, both for their practical use and for their great decorative power. And you don’t have to look long to find a shelf that fits your needs, we don’t even have to buy it sometimes. If we know how to search and we take out our ingenuity we can find objects that help us make an original shelf without going to the furniture store to buy a standard one. As I said before, it just takes a little imagination and knowing how to take advantage of the space we have to change the entire look of the walls of our study, living room, bedroom or any other place where we place an unconventional shelf.
That is why we have gathered 6 very creative ideas to put a shelf always taking advantage of the available space. Let’s see what you think.
Make a shelf with ladders and tables.
Matilda Rose Project
Who was going to tell you that two old stairs from a few decades ago together with some wooden planks could create a beautiful shelf with a lot of personality. Just by putting the two stairs and supporting a plank on each step, we can use it as such, keeping books, decorative objects, or whatever we like.
Create a custom shelf depending on the space available.
On many occasions, if not most, when we decide that we need a shelf, the first thing we do is go to the furniture store and buy one, without first thinking about the possibilities that our space offers us. Look at this example. Instead of placing the classic bathroom shelf or cabinet, the space between the two shelves has been used to place custom wooden planks and thus, in addition to having our much-needed bathroom shelf, we make the most of the space available in the bathroom. Interesting right?

Buying a custom shelf, maybe it can be a bit expensive, but if you have skill and good tools, you will not need to go to any carpentry to make one and be able to create yourself with a few simple wooden planks one that adapts to the measurements you need and the decorative environment where you are going to place it. Everything is a matter of studying and meditating about what you really want and need and get to work.
Use industrial shelving.

Another very successful option in some cases is to use industrial shelving. Yes, shelves that are not intended for home use. They are much cheaper pieces and if we know how to combine them well, we can create spaces with a great personality. These industrial shelves are ideal especially for kitchens.
Suspended or hanging shelves.

Sometimes due to lack of space, it is impossible for us to put even one more piece of furniture, but knowing that said piece of furniture is going to solve part of the problem that we do not have space, we must find a solution. And here you have one. Make or buy a hanging shelf. It makes the same use and does not take up a useful space, so it is a highly recommended option for small rooms such as kitchens where many storage spaces are needed.
Glass shelves or shelves.
Pamella Sandall Project
For a modern, light and artistic style, we can turn to floating glass shelves. Being glass and transparent, they do not recharge the environment at all, and if we place them in a strategic corner, we will thus take advantage of the maximum space.
