The chopping technique It is a very old type of paint, like gotelé, it is hardly worn anymore, it is generally only applied in old houses that have not been renovated, but if you like or have this type of painting in your house painting technique and you have to fix a patch we explain how to do the wall chopping technique step by step from scratch or to fix that patch.
How to do the chopping technique from scratch:
Temper for chopping.
A normal wool roller.
A chopping roller.
To begin with, we need the walls to be smooth, it does not have to be a perfect smooth but the smoother they are, the better the final result. It cannot be done on gotelé, or breezes or any type of paint that is not smooth. Better said if it can be done, but the original chopped would not come out.
We apply to the wall with a normal roller the tempering paste without water, as it comes in its container. We spread a not very large piece with the normal roller, and then and before it dries (that is why it must be done in small pieces), we pass the chopping roller gently from top to bottom or from one side to the other, that depends to our liking. We will immediately notice that when the roller gently passes the pitting appears. The drawing of the chopped will depend on where we pass the roller and with the intensity that we pass it.
Now with the normal roller we apply another piece after the other and we pass the chopping roller again, we will do so until the entire surface to be painted is covered.
Once the chopped has dried, we can paint over it with the type of paint we want, it can be color tempera, plastic paint, enamel …, that depends on your tastes, you can even leave it that way. As you can see it is very simple to do.
For corners and places where the chopping roller does not fit or does not fit, they sell small chopping rollers specially designed for those areas where the large roller does not work.
Before starting to do the chopping, it is convenient to practice on a cardboard, to try different drawings and then on the wall it will come out right the first time.
How to repair a patch in an area where we have made a dive:
The first thing we will do is smooth the patch to be repaired with putty and once the putty dries, we will sand all the putty and the surroundings of the patch to reduce the pitting, since as in the surroundings of the patch we will do pitting over pitting if it is not sanded and smooth you would notice a protrusion around the edge of the patch.
Now is when we take the normal roller and apply temper to the patch and then we take the mincing roller and we do the mincing in the same shape and size as the wall has, so that the patch is not noticeable.
But to make sure that the cut will be the same as the old one, the best we can do is practice on a cardboard or a surface that does not work, before doing it on the wall.
Once dry, we can paint the same color as the walls, if they have any.
In this post it is explained how to make a chop with temperaIt is the cheapest way, since a 15 kilo sack of temper is worth at most 5 euros. But to make pitting outdoors as a facade, for example, it is advisable to use rough stone.
The rough stone is a pasty paint that does not need to be painted afterwards and is waterproof. If we want to make a cut, for example orange in the facade of our house, we buy rough orange stone and we do not need any other type of product. The way to apply the rough stone is the same, first with a normal roller we spread the stone through an area and then we pass the chopping roller, and we will do so until the entire area is finished.
