Tiles for small bathrooms. Make the bathroom visually bigger with these tiles

In a bathroom, as in any other space, everything adds up. Some elements more than others, and, in this case, the tiles and tiles chosen for a small bathroom, have a greater power than other elements.

It must be taken into account that they are the base on which the aesthetics of the bathroom will be built. And if the base is wrong … Well, we already know what happens.

Therefore, if you want to expand your small bathroom or make it appear larger, that is, optimize space, you need to choose the perfect tiles for small bathrooms, build a good base, on which to later continue expanding your bathroom, as with mirrors, suspended furniture or other elements that make a bathroom appear more spacious.

So, let’s see what are the best tiles for a small bathroom.

The color of the tiles

Let’s start with the color, always so important on any surface; and, when it comes to expanding a space, in this case a bathroom, even more.

As you can imagine, light tones, both on the floor and on the walls, are the colors that work best in a small bathroom, as we can see in this bathroom with the white tiles.

Light colors reflect more light, which makes the bathroom brighter and also visually larger.

This does not mean that a small bathroom cannot be covered with dark tiles, but here we are talking about the tiles that make a bathroom appear larger and brighter, that is, the tiles with which we will optimize the bathroom space, and with the dark ones we will not optimize it.

But don’t be overwhelmed, you don’t have to choose white tiles, if you don’t like them. There is an immense variety of tiles in soft tones, such as earth tones, a large range, grays and broken whites with which to make the bathroom visually larger and brighter without giving up a colorful aesthetic if that is what you are looking for.

The size of the tiles

Equal or more important than color is size. In this case we play with the extremes: Either big or small.

Large-format tiles expand and give continuity to the space and if they are in light tones much better.

In the bathroom above these lines with the simple and elegant countertop washbasin we can see the large format tile in earth tones that covers the floor, making it visually more spacious.

Or small tiles that, due to the number of them that must be used to cover a wall, deceive the eye, making the surface appear larger due to the large number there are, as we can see in this white bathroom with subway tiles in gloss and with the beautiful vintage freestanding washbasin.

Although it is also true that these tiles recharge more than the larger formats.

Compared to the more traditional tiles of medium sizes, they do not contribute anything beyond their function as a covering and decorative. To create effects they do not serve us. They can be used equally, of course, but we will not achieve the same effect.

Even tile type mosaic is more suitable and convenient than a standard medium-size tile.

The tile at least creates the illusion that the spaces are larger than they are, and since it is a mosaic, its decorative possibilities are only held back by our imagination, as we can see in the bathroom just below.

Basically these two factors, color and size, are the most decisive when choosing tiles for a small bathroom that wants to optimize its space. Its placement on the wall, texture or joint, does not influence as much, although, of course, they do matter.

If we want to further optimize the choice of tile, those in a rectified format to hide or make the joint invisible, large and in light tones, would be ideal; since its continuous surface offers us an incomparable visual continuity with respect to other tile formats, as we can see in this bathroom by Roca.

Perhaps after reading this article, you may think that you cannot add an outstanding aesthetic in the bathroom.

But not so much less.

As I said before, any tile can be used to create the combination we want, but if what we want is to optimize space, these characteristics are what we should look for in a tile to cover our bathroom.
